South Lake Junior Triathlon

South Lake will host the Junior Triathlon in the beautiful and secure setting around Craigavon lakes.

 

Date: Sunday 24 Aug

Time: 10am – wave start

Age range: 9-18 year olds

AGE 9-10

Distance by age category:

Swim: 100m

Bike: 5 km

Run: 1 km

JUNIOR TRIATHLON FAQ’S

WHAT TIME DOES THE TRIATHLON START?

There will be 4 age waves. The 1st wave starts at 10am. Individual wave times will be sent in advance in the race briefing.

WHO CAN ENTER THIS YEAR'S EVENT?

Anyone age 9-18 years old can take part.

IS THIS A TIMED EVENT?

Yes, the event will be chip timed.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ENTER?

Entry fee is 22 Euro for those that hold a junior Triathlon Ireland License.

For those that don’t an additional ODL (One Day License Fee) will apply.

WHERE IS THE OFFICIAL START & FINISH?

The start and finish line will be outside South Lake Leisure Centre (lakeside entrance).

MUST I SIGN IN ON THE DAY?

Yes, you must register on the day and show your Triathlon Ireland License.

CAN I REGISTER ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT?

No, there will be no registration on the day.

Numbers are capped so early registration is advised.

Online registrations will close Sunday 17 August.

WHERE SO I PARK ON THE DAY?

There is ample car parking at South Lake Leisure Centre.

Overflow car parking is available at Craigavon Civic Centre.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?

Swim:

A triathlon always starts with a swim. The swim can be any stroke apart from backstroke. You will need a brightly coloured swim hat, goggles, wetsuit, swimwear or tri suit.

Bike:

The next step is to get on your bike. Any type of bike will do – just check it is roadworthy and you’ll need a helmet too. Bike Shoes are optional, trainers are fine. If you’re not wearing a tri suit, you will need a t-shirt to put on over your swimming costume.

Run:

Finally, it’s time for a bit of running! Pack your trainers.

WHAT SUPPORT IS THERE ON THE SWIM COURSE?

There will be strategically positioned lifeguards / marshals around the course.

WHERE IS THE TRANSITION AREA?

The transition area is located in front of South Lake Leisure Centre.

ARE THERE CHANGING FACILITIES?

There will be changing facilities available in South Lake Leisure Centre.

WILL THERE BE WATER STATIONS?

There will be water stations at the finish line. Competitors are advised to have a water bottle on their bike.
